We have realized that the current situation, where a user has a double rating both in the game room and in tournaments, is not sustainable. So I will describe a solution to improve the vint.ee gaming environment in this regard: User double ratings (game room ratings) will disappear in the vint.ee environment. Only game-based ratings will remain: Russian checkers, chess, pickling, Stack 4D, etc. Therefore, game room rankings will also disappear. Only game-based rankings will remain. Whether you play a game in the game room or in a tournament - it makes no difference: the rating will change the same depending on the strength of the opponent in this game type. Which rating will remain?[b] One option would be to recalculate the ratings from 0 (we have the results of all games in the database). The calculation would then be based on both game room games and tournament games in this game type. Another option would be to choose based on each game separately: The chess rating would remain the current chess room rating, in sudoku, the tournament rating in nails. Decision-making place. [b]What rating should be shown in game rooms with more than one game? In these game rooms, game-specific lounges are created. For example, in checkers: A Russian checkers lounge, an International checkers lounge, etc. are created. The chat room is shared in these rooms. All users who enter the checkers room are shown in all lounges with a different (game-specific) rating. By default, the user has the "Does not want challenges" mark in all lounges. The idea is that when the user comes to the checkers room, he goes through all the lounges and unchecks the rooms where he wants challenges. For example, in the Handover lounge, you can immediately see which users have come to play Handover and who do not want to play this game. Inviting to a game is also easier - you no longer have to choose the game type, but go to the corresponding lounge and submit an invitation. An alternative would be to create a separate game room for each game type, but in this case the Pickling and Brazilian Checkers game rooms would be completely empty. Open questions in some game types In the Gomoku room, there is a question: do we need 5 ratings for the user (gomoku, VV gomoku, pente, swap Rendzu, Taraguchi Rendzu)? (Or three would be enough: gomoku, Pente, Rendzu). This would leave three lounges in the Gomoku room and when inviting to play you have to make a choice whether to play regular gomoku or VV, or which Rendzu you want to play). Another topic is Sudoku - today we have 3 Sudoku ratings: game room, individual tournament, and duel tournament ratings. Instead of these, there could be 1: individual tournament rating. Another problem with Sudoku is that in this game you cannot recalculate the rating (in the individual tournament, the points are awarded according to a slightly different logic). In Sudoku, you would then have to decide which rating to take. I would offer a tournament rating (then Ain and Tiidu will have motivation to strive for red again):) Leadership logic I would leave the logic of staying on the leaderboard the same: you have to play one rated game in this game type within two weeks to maintain your ranking. The user can do this either in the tournament room or in the game room. Changes in the mental athlete rankings The logic of the mental athlete rankings will change slightly: the average of the game room ratings will no longer be taken, but the average of the most popular games. These games could be: Chess Russian Checkers Sudoku Othello (VV) Gomoku These games must then be played at least once every two weeks (with rating). I guess it's not much to ask:) Rating synchronicity problem If a user is playing a game with scoring in both the game room and the tournament at the same time, we need to think of a solution to keep the rating synchronous. This would also eliminate the restriction that a user cannot participate in multiple tournaments with tournament scoring at the same time. What do you think of the idea? Would this make life better in Vindi?
Harmonization of room ratings and tournament ratings

I agree, it would make things much clearer. It would eliminate the fact that you keep red in the game room, but gray in the tournament. If you also want to play in tournaments, there is no point in passing up suitable opponents in the game room. In a tournament, you have to play with many people anyway. In any case, the rating would more accurately show the player's actual strength. (Except for nails, where the rating is more a matter of luck.).
I would like to point out some shortcomings that would affect this system: * If we have a common rating, then the effect that users have too high a rating will not disappear. Those who choose opponents and have a hard rating will not come to the tournament and will still be losing their points by 1-2 points. * How to fit 5 lounge tabs a large room tab an admin tab a game tab in the checker room so that the graphical mess that occurs when you open too many tabs does not occur. (And probably you should also think about the fact that at least 1 more window in the game room could fit in there without this happening. *On what basis is Othello more popular than 4-row? And why is 4-row left out at all? Or maybe I didn't quite understand the idea. *There is also a synchronization problem. In my opinion, the solution would be that when a user invites someone to a game, it is first checked whether you are not registered for a tournament. If so, then red text will appear that you are registered for a tournament. And if you want to register for a tournament, it will be checked whether you are not playing the same game in the game room. *Will all game types be displayed separately on the user profile and everyone will be given the number of games in the corresponding game type ( wins/draws/losses)? Are any aggregate numbers also shown then? (Games in checker types, etc.) *The table of mental athletes becomes a bit suspicious: does the skill of playing RV checkers cost nothing, or surrender. It is also a matter of With 4-row and stack4D - which one should stay? English checkers is also a pretty good game. In this case, we need to think carefully about how we will do this with this new system for mental athletes. Also - is playing RV checkers enough to get into the mental athletes table if you have not played checkers yet? The system also has its good sides: *Sudoku probably needs the least changes. Only the application of ratings. The playing space remains exactly the same. Also, in general, the tournament and sudoku room ratings are similar for everyone - there are no big differences there, so it probably doesn't matter which rating to use. (I favor the playing space one, because many people don't have tournament ratings at all, but who has played sudoku). It would be a fool to give 1400 again. Probably the most reasonable option would be to recalculate everyone's rating in each game type... that would mean regenerating 2,000,000 games :) *Regarding marinating and chess, no one's chess rating should really be that bad, you really don't know chess that well. Same issue with surrender and checkers and gomoku and pente.
*How to fit 5 lounge tabs in a checkerboard room I thought about this: We have an empty space at the top of the applet. I would put there (in the case of the checkerboard room example) the buttons "International Checkers", "English Checkers, etc." Clicking on the button only changes the list of users and displays the users based on the rating of the corresponding game. The user can also check the "Do not want challenges" box separately for each game type. *On what basis is Othello more popular than 4-Ring? It is not more popular. The very big essential difference between Othello and 4-Ring is that Connect Four is solved, Othello is not. For reading. Here is also our point of view - should we consider games that have been solved as areas of mind sports (the winner is known from the first move). I would not classify these areas as mind sports. *There is also a problem of synchronicity. Solving synchronicity like this: Every time a game ends (either in a tournament or in a game room), we update the user's rating in the game system. In addition, we always recalculate the game result at the end of the game (not at the beginning, like today). *Will the user's profile then display all game types separately and give everyone the number of games in the corresponding game type ( wins/draws/losses)? Yes - general numbers (many users have played in the checkers room, there is no point in displaying them). *The table of mental athletes becomes a bit suspicious: does the ability to play RV checkers cost nothing, or does it cost a surrender. There is also the matter of 4-row and stack4D - which one should stay? English checkers is also a pretty good game. The list of mental athletes should still include a calculation of the most popular areas. I would therefore immediately exclude 4-row and English checkers, because they are solved games. In Estonia, the most popular areas are Russian checkers and chess. I agree - International Checkers is more popular in Estonia than Othello, but in Vindi the stories are the opposite: 24,000 games of Othello have been played, 12,000 of International Checkers.
Some more thoughts: Can I play English checkers if I have an active Russian checkers chat room? Has Stack4D been solved? I've heard that Russian checkers has also been solved recently. Synchronization is really not the most critical issue, because even if you play 2-3 games in the game room in between, the points that can be changed in the tournament cannot be changed very categorically. The question is, of course, whether the points are changed in the game if you have changed your rating in another place in the meantime. And one big issue is the issue with card games: Will red-nailed players start attending our tournaments? I doubt it. I believe that due to this change, we will start playing less, because many no longer attend tournaments and they are not very active in the game room, because the rating is high and there is usually no one to play with.
In the gomoku room, 3 ratings are enough - gomoku, pente and rendžu.
I like the idea too. And in this case, the ranking of athletes will inevitably be a matter of choice, the choice offered by Marten seems good.
One more problem: If I'm red in chess and I go to a chess tournament and play against gray and gray wins and beats me, then I'll get 42 points???!!!!

There still has to be a check if gray beats red.. posted by peeterarthur One more problem: If I'm red in chess and I go to a chess tournament and I play against gray and gray wins and beats me, then I'll get 42 points???!!!!
