Some pages will be visible only to VIP users in the future

Hello, The data volume in the Vint.ee database is growing rapidly, we have played millions of games and every year hundreds of thousands more are added. We have given users the ability to use functionality that is becoming increasingly "expensive": Database queries to display these pages require more and more time. Today there was a case where a student managed to refresh one of these "expensive" pages 10 times in a row and overload the vint.ee server with it. Generally, such problems are solved by denormalizing the data (for example, storing sudoku records in a separate database table) - this requires quite a lot of development and in some cases it is not possible at all (for example, searching for games). As a quick solution, we decided to limit access to such "expensive" pages and allow access to these pages only to VIP users. We have currently identified three such pages: * Game search * Overall tournament rankings * Sudoku records * "Top ratings" view in the game room This list is probably not final. ...but you're talking about... why are you restricting the user from seeing my better rating (don't confuse it with the general current rating) without VIP? I understand that you are restricting some so-called "ok" that doesn't concern the user, but you are restricting the user's own things without VIP...hmmm It's like some kind of punishment that there is no VIP and it doesn't create an appetite for becoming a VIP... especially for your so-called old clients, who have been VIPs for a long time and have already paid you enough or something? PS! don't forget that data volumes are also getting cheaper...if a hard drive or server space with the same capacity cost x money at the time, now you can get many times more data volume for the same x money :)
It's not about storing data volumes (hard drive size) but about the processor work that needs to be done to search for information from that data volume. The "Top Ratings" view came to Vint 4 years ago, which means that 9 years of happy playing without it!
It came when it came, if something is taken away from what was there before, it's still a shame :) And this is not so-called general information, but visible only to a specific user :)
