Innovations in time control

We are moving towards mobile platforms. Next year we will probably be so far away that all Vint games can also be played on mobile (true - with small restrictions: Android / iOS operating system and Chrome / Safari browser). With such technological innovations, we had to change our approach a little: While today we "trust" the client, or Java Applet, the mobile platform client is a regular JavaScript client, which anyone can rewrite - we cannot trust this client and therefore we have to do all the checks on the server. Including time control. Until now, the time to make a move was calculated in the client, which allowed us to compensate for the delay caused by the slowness of the Internet. We cannot do this with the new approach. To give the user an idea of how much more time it takes during a game of checkers / chess due to their internet speed, we put the PING information in the big hall. This number shows the time it takes for a message to travel from your computer to the Vint.ee server and back. This is exactly how much more time each of your moves will take than today. Very good speed is between 200 - 500 ms, 1000 - 5000 is playable with slow time controls, beyond that you should think about getting a more stable internet :) We can have a little competition here - who sees the highest number :) Mine is currently showing 306, which is a very good connection. As usual, something might have broken with the updates. We hope for understanding and look forward to feedback if something seems to be behaving strangely. NB! If you don't see the PING value in the bottom right corner of the large hall, you should close your browser for a while (you still have the old version of the games).
