blufar: NUMBER OF PLAYERS: Marjas is a game for pairs. There are also variants of Marjas for three and two players. NEEDED FOR THE GAME: A standard deck of cards, from which cards 2-5 are removed. This leaves 36 cards for play. (The removed small cards can be used for scoring) HOW THE GAME WORKS: Cards are dealt equally to everyone. The game itself is a trick game, in which the player with the highest card wins the trick. These won cards are no longer used in the game, but later you get points for them. RULES: In each round, you must always play the same suit as the player who started the round. In addition, you must play with a card higher than the highest card played in that round so far. This is called trumping. If there is no card of the same suit, you must always play with a trump card, if there is one in the game. Following the suit is a stronger rule than forcing a trump, so a trump cannot be used if the player has the original suit in hand. The obligation to trump also does not apply if the highest card so far has been played by his partner. TRUMP: A trump can only be played immediately after taking a trick. Then the player has the right to play a trump from the suit from which he has a king and a queen. It is also sufficient if a pair has two kings and a queen of the same suit, for this the player can ask the partner if he has a half of a certain suit. If the partner answers in the affirmative, the trump is played. If the answer is negative, a new question cannot be asked about the halves of other suits, but must wait until they take a new trick. It is also allowed to ask for a whole instead of a half. Then it is not necessary to name the suit in the question, and if the partner has a queen and a king of the same suit in hand, a trump can be played. In any case, if a trump is played, it must be from the same suit as the king and queen's suit. Only one trump card can be played in a game. The pair that made a trump card gets 2 points for it. MINOR TRUMP: After making a trump card, you can also play secondary trumps from other suits according to the same rules. A minor trump card does not affect the playing of tricks or the order of the cards' strength in any way. For each minor trump card formed, the pair gets one point. MATCH: Tens and aces collected with tricks can also give points. These cards are called mats. When the game is over, the pair with the most mats gets one point. If both pairs have the same number of mats, the one with the highest number of face cards gets a point (Face cards give points as follows: king = 3 points, queen = 2 points, knight = 1 point). Face cards have no more value than to decide who gets the mat point in the event of a tie. In such a case, if these points are also evenly distributed, the mat point is postponed to the next game and then the winner gets 2 points at once. LAST TUCK: The pair that takes the last trick also gets one point. WINNING: The game is won by the pair that first gets 12 points. However, the pair must get exactly 12 points, because if more points are accumulated, the pair's score drops to 7 points. THREE OF A KNIGHTS: This is played as a normal tuck, but each player plays for himself. Since the cards are dealt to three, each player gets 12 cards. TWO OF A KNIGHTS: The game is played as a three-player game and the cards are still dealt into three piles, one of which is unused. Addition: 10 is second in strength, i.e. immediately after the ace. "Talk", i.e. make a trump, a trick, help and ask your partner for half or support only after taking the trick. Trump and tricks can be made together, i.e. at the same time, no "help". The winner of the deal is the one who finally gets more tricks. Gets 2 (game) points. "Wheels" are also made on trump when holding a trump ace and a ten. You can ask the other side for "support" if you don't have both in your hand. You get 2 points. "Abi helps and shows" - after making a help, the abi's queen or king must be played. The abi's side is not asked for, i.e. both, the queen and king of the same suit, must be in the same hand. "Jann" - if at the end of the hand one side has less than 33 points (the ace is counted as 11, 10 10 and picture points). The winner gets 2 points in addition. I've never heard of "mates" before.
