Vint.ee turned 14!

Today, the Estonian mind sports portal Vint.ee turned 14!

14 years is a pretty solid number for a single gaming platform.
We must have made some right decisions to still be in business:

Vint.ee games
One of the reasons for our success has certainly been the selection of games - many of the games in Vind are also very popular in the "real world" - chess, checkers, gomoku, sudoku, crosswords - these games have thousands of fans in Estonia and tens of thousands (or millions) around the world. Some of our games are also completely unique (they cannot be played anywhere else on the Internet): Sasku, Bismarck, Küüned, and the board games Lines of Action and Entropia. We are missing one very popular mental sport in Estonia (and the world) - bridge . Hopefully, bridge will be playable in Vind in some form this summer!

Technical platform
Many large international gaming portals have closed down in recent years. We also have one recent domestic example - Mängukoobas.
The reason for the closure was the obsolescence of the technical platform. Namely, browser-based games have been written in Flash for years. However, this platform is now "closed" (browsers no longer support it).
Vint.ee also started 14 years ago on a now-defunct platform - Java Applets, but fortunately about 10 years ago we made a strategically important decision and rewrote all games to Javascript - a technology that also works on mobile phones and is still developing rapidly today.
However, we have one big concern with today's gaming space - namely, playing on mobile is quite annoying. Our gaming space is not adapted to mobile. We see that if we don't fix this, vint.ee will no longer be competitive in the coming years.
However, fixing this is a very large project . Essentially, we have to rewrite 20,000 lines of Javascript code that runs in the browser. This is where we will focus all our attention this year: we hope to be able to introduce the new game space to users by spring, but it will probably not be fully completed until a year from now.

Tournaments and user profiles
It seems that the portal vint.ee has something unique on a global scale - our tournament system (closed tournaments with pre-registration) and user profiles (which allow tournament tables to be displayed with full names and countries of origin) have caught the eye of many outside of Estonia. Several international tournaments took place on Vint last year, and it is known that several large tournaments will take place this year as well. We have recently added a team tournament format to Vint. Several international tournaments will be held in this format.

We are going international.
Vint.ee has been translated into four languages today. It is hoped that this number will reach double digits by the summer.
One interesting story is with Othello: it is estimated that around 10,000 people play Othello every day in the world. This is on various websites on the Internet. Recently, the Othello World Federation contacted us, claiming that vint.ee could be one of the best Othello playing environments in the world (the main reason being the aforementioned tournaments). We are starting to cooperate with this organization (we will announce the details in the coming weeks), and we will probably see many international users in the near future.
Some foreign investors have also shown interest in us. This gives us confidence that we are on the right track. We will see in the near future what kind of help we need for the next big leap.

In conclusion
We have very exciting years ahead of us. We can see that the past 14 years have been one long learning process. Today, we have enough knowledge and confidence to say that we have a lot to offer the wider world in the near future.
