Casino Monte Carlo Estonian Championship in Mind Games Multi-Competition Pairs Tartu, Ülikooli Café, 12-13. April 2008 INSTRUCTIONS PURPOSE Sports-intellectual entertainment, during which the best Estonian mind games multi-competition pairs are identified. Also, the revival of a tradition that is several decades old in its original form. TIME AND PLACE The competition will be held on 12-13.04.2008 in Tartu, Ülikooli Café, Ülikooli 20, 3rd floor conference hall. The competition begins on Saturday, 12.04 at 11.00. COMPETITORS Anyone who has registered on time and paid the participation fee can participate. The participation fee is 100 EEK per player, 50 EEK for (students), and free for pensioners and people with disabilities. The entry fee is paid on site before the start of the competition. TOURNAMENT ORGANIZATION [u]General[/u] Competitions will be held in 5 disciplines: chess, Russian checkers, bridge, memory game and solving sudoku. All disciplines will be played in pairs and the score will be kept for pairs. The overall ranking will be determined based on the total number of place points in the 5 disciplines. Place points will be distributed as follows: 1st place – 16 points, 2nd place – 14 points, 3rd place – 12 points, 4th place – 11 points, 5th place – 10 points, 6th place – 9 points, …, 14th place – 1 point. If there are fewer than 14 pairs participating in any discipline, points will also be awarded to those pairs who have registered for the tournament but are not participating in that particular discipline. Depending on the number of participants, the place point system may change slightly. [u]Schedule[/u] The competitions will start on April 12 at 11 am, the first area is a memory game. A Russian checkers and bridge tournament will also be played on Saturday. The approximate end of the competitions is on Saturday at 7 pm. On Sunday, April 13, the competition will start at 10 am with solving Sudoku puzzles against time. The last area of the competitions is chess, which is scheduled for around 11 am. The competitions will end approximately at 3 pm. [u]Memory game[/u] In the memory game, you must answer 30 questions from different fields. The game will take place in blocks of 5-6 questions, with 5-6 minutes to answer each block. [u]Checkers[/u] Russian checkers will be played in the Swiss system for 7 rounds. Depending on the number of participants (up to 8 pairs), the tournament may also take place in a round robin system. Each team (pair) must determine the order of the boards in advance, which cannot be changed during the tournament. Game points are taken into account, i.e. results of 1-1, 2-0 and 1.5-0.5 are possible. The thinking time is 10 minutes per game for each opponent. In the event of equal points, a progressive coefficient is taken into account (the sum of the points after the round with extensions). [u]Bridge[/u] A 24-round pair tournament is played for maxi. The more precise tournament system depends on the number of participants. [u]Sudoku[/u] Up to 10 sudokus of different difficulty levels must be solved within a given time limit. It does not matter which team member solves which sudoku. The ranking is determined based on the points collected, with sudokus of different difficulty levels giving different numbers of points. Only sudokus that have been solved correctly in full are taken into account. In the event of a tie, time decides. Sudokus have been compiled by Rauno Pärnits, one of Estonia's most recognized specialists in this field. [u]Chess[/u] The competition will be held in the Swiss system with 7 rounds. Depending on the number of participants (up to 10 participants), the tournament may also be held in a round robin system. AWARDS The 3 best pairs of the competition will be awarded a medal and a cash prize. The exact cash prizes depend on the number of participants, the 1st place prize is at least 800 EEK. A special prize is for the best female pair. Additional special prizes may be awarded by the organizers. GENERAL All problems that arise that are not covered in the instructions will be resolved on site by the decisions of the head judge and assistant judges.
