Hello, On Saturday, 09.03.2019, the 14th Estonian Sudoku Championship was held at Veskisilla near Türi. 65 competitors had secured their place in the final competition through the preliminary rounds, of which 46 arrived. In addition to the Estonians, the Finn Ulla Elsilä participated in the competition outside the competition. After the first two rounds, the first of which was 101 minutes long, last year's World Championship bronze medalist Tiit Vunk was in first place. The top ten of the preliminary rounds advanced to the final, held using the Gundersen method. In the tense final, Tiit Vunk won his ninth consecutive Estonian championship title. Ragnar Kruberg, who started the final in second place, finished second. Anna-Brigita Topkin, a ninth-grade student at Tallinn Science School, came in third. In addition to the absolute standings, the medal trio was also determined in the 50 age group. The winner was Jaan Laks, the second was Karin Luiv, and the third was Margus Tirp. The organizer of the competition, AS Kuma, is a member of the World Puzzle Federation and, based on the results of the competition, will assemble the Estonian team for the World Championships in Germany in the fall.
By the way, the top 8 are all Vind users and at least 2 of the veterans' top 3 are also on Vind! Since the proportion of Vind users was high (especially at the top), I will also list the unofficial Estonian Vind top 10 here, the last 2 of which are not certain, so I will also note the alternatives: 1. TiiT 2. Krubi 3. brigita 4. Est 5. AlQaholic 6. Mimm 7. umbluu 8. regynts (9. Jaan, who should be on Vind, but whose user I am not 100% sure of) (10. Laura, who should also be on Vind, but whose user I do not know) 9./10./11. allever 10./11./12. kuakua If I made a mistake with any user, please correct me ;) I myself finished this time in 33rd place, which is my poorest result so far. For the first time I was out of the top 30 and of course I was miles away from my best place (-15). Round 1 was poor and I only got 165 points. Round 2, or the sprint, was more or less satisfactory -- 1 special shape was left unfinished and I therefore got 64 points. The total was 229, which is neither my best nor my worst, but the competition was decent this year. And here are the full Estonian results: https://www.kuma.ee/sudoku-emv-2019/
