The portal vint.ee, in collaboration with the Estonian Chess Federation, organized an online tournament series "Chess against COVID-19!"
Five 7-round tournaments took place each week for six consecutive weeks (30 tournaments in total),
The results of the 20 best tournaments were added together in the overall standings.
135 people played chess in the tournament series, and just over 30 chess players participated in at least twenty tournaments.
The tournament series was won by Aleksandr Volodin , who was crowned Estonian champion on the physical board last weekend. Aleksandr participated in exactly 20 tournaments, won 8 of them and collected 242 points .
Sander Kukk and Ilja Haitin followed, both scoring 225 points . Since the instructions did not clearly define the distribution of places in case of equal points, the judges decided as follows:
- The cash prize will be divided equally between Sander and Ilja.
- The 2nd place trophy goes to Sander (8 tournament wins), the 3rd place trophy goes to Ilja (3 tournament wins)

We would also like to remind you that in March we will be organizing an online Fischer chess tournament series with the Estonian Chess Federation. And this time you can only participate with your own (verified) account. We can already see from the results of this tournament series (19 out of the first 20 had their names published on their profiles!), that chess players also want to move towards more transparent and honest tournaments on the internet.
