posted by Meikop The problem is in the implementation.
However, if we think about the future and the implementation of renju, for example, the beginning of the renju game (6 alternating moves, which include changing colors, adding and removing pieces to the board) could not be implemented in the game invitation window. So, this should be solved so that users make their starting moves and color changes already in the game that is running, and no longer in the invitation window. Therefore, it would probably not make sense to make gomoku with color changes differently.

I guess regular gomoku, color-changing gomoku, and renju should be implemented as one game (so that when inviting you can choose which invitation you are presenting). But - if you now place these 3 buttons in the game, then the opponent needs to choose which color he chooses in a popup window somewhere... Or how do you imagine it in Jaanus?

Sorry for advertising here in the second place, but I think the gomoku game on Kurnik.org is very well solved and works beautifully. Maybe you can get some help there if you take a look at the game.

Gomoku and gomoku with color change can be freely in the same selection window. In my opinion, the first 3 could be placed anywhere, you can find opportunities for equal openings from all sides. I agree with duxdery and jaans that it would be better to move the first 3 buttons already in the game, it is a bit unnatural to move the buttons before the game actually starts.

Renju is probably different enough from gomoku that it could be implemented as a separate game. Gomoku and the color change variant can be nicely put into one game. But how would it look? Yes, when the first mover puts the pieces on the board, the opponent should now be able to choose a color, which could very well be a popup with two options: black or white. These non-standard moves should also be implemented, so that on the 6th move of renju, white moves to one board and takes one piece or moves two pieces in a row, etc. Then the user should be constantly notified (some text somewhere next to the game board?) about what he needs to do now. A'la "put two pieces on the table" or "now take one piece off the table". In short, it can be done, but since the beginning of the game is very different compared to other board games, it may take a while :) In any case, we will take the gomoku and renju with color change as our implementation plan.

Why make renju and gomoku separate games? Similarly, 10x10 and 8x8 checkers are in the same playing space, and both the number of squares and the rules are different from each other. They still have the same principle. Or are they so different?

Yes. I also support putting Renju and Gomoku in the same room. That way it's easier for users to invite each other to play and communicate (no need to switch between two lounges). Renju and gomoku are similar enough too.

I totally agree that gomoku and rendzu should have the same room :)

I also believe that it could be in the same playroom as gomoku.

Decided. Color-changing Gomoku and Renju will be in the same room as regular Gomoku. Let's start programming :)
