Kaari Vainonen and Urmo Ilves become Estonian champions of Välskäp

The Estonian Rapid Checkers Championship in International Checkers was held at the Paul Keres Chess House. In the women's tournament, Kaari Vainonen (Lasnamäe MKK) and last year's champion Piret Viirma (Järvamaa KK) shared first place with 15 points out of 19 after the main tournament. In the third game of the follow-up match, Vainonen managed to overtake Viirma, thus capturing the championship title. Margit Viirma (Lasnamäe KK) took third place with 11 points. The top three were followed by Elvia Sõber (Remii SK), Veronika Pikkel (Lasnamäe) and Diana Romanenkova (Nõmme KK) in sixth place. Urmo Ilves (Järvamaa KK) became the Estonian champion among men, who collected 26 points out of 28. Konstantin Selli (Nõmme KK), the two-year rapid checkers champion, came in second with 23 points, and Raido Värik (Nõmme KK) came in third with 22 points. Villem Lüüs (Lasnamäe KK) was fourth and Kaido Leesmann (Remii SK) was fifth, with 21 and 19 points respectively. Raivo Rist (Hiiumaa) completed the top six with 17 points.
