On the opening day of the 10th World Sudoku Championship in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, the final of the World Sudoku Grand Prix took place, where the top 10 players (697 solvers in total) qualified based on the results of eight preliminary rounds held online throughout the year. Estonian Tiit Vunk started the final in the top position. Unfortunately, Tiit was unable to maintain his success and defend his title from last year during the eight sudoku solving sessions, but as a hard fighter, he managed to climb from fourth place to third place. Last year's runner-up Kota Morinishi took the victory to Japan, while Frenchman Timothy Doyle came in second. Tiit Vunk has earned a full set of awards from the three-year history of the competition, having been first, second and third. The Sudoku World Championship continues on Monday and the winner of the world championship will be announced by the evening of Tuesday, October 13. The title will be defended by Kota Morinishi, while Tiit Vunk was second at last year's World Championship. A total of 8 Estonians will compete in the Sudoku World Championship, which means that Estonia is represented by both the A and B teams.
