The European Championship in international draughts ended in Tallinn. The men's tournament was won by former world champion Guntis Valneris (Latvia), collecting 13 points out of 18. In the draw, places from 2 to 5 went to the draw, the better ratio of criteria gave second place to the reigning world champion Aleksander Georgijev, and third to the Lithuanian Edvard Bužinski, who collected 12 points out of 18. The last round did not bring luck to the Estonians. In the meantime, Argo Unnuk, who shared the top ten places, lost to the Ukrainian representative Artem Ivanov and was ultimately left sharing places from 31 to 41, collecting 9 points out of 18. At the same time, this ensured that the international champion's norm was met. Raido Värik, Arnmo Uutma, Janek Jaanimäe collected 8 points and thus shared places from 42 to 50. A total of 66 men from 13 countries participated in the men's tournament. The women's tournament had an exciting end, with the last round being exceptionally productive. In the end, six women tied for first place out of 18 with 12 points. Based on the better criteria, Tamara Tansykkuzhina (Russia) became the European champion, the reigning world champion Darya Tkachenko (Ukraine) came in second, and Matrena Nogovitsyna (Russia) came in third. Kaari Vainonen finished as the best Estonian with a good 16th place, collecting 10 points out of 18 and thus fulfilling the FMJD champion norm.
