Hello, On Sunday, the Estonian Fischer Chess Championship took place in Tartu for the 5th time. The competition was organized by the Estonian Chess Federation, the Estonian Chess Support Association and the Estonian Thought Sports Association. The competition took place in a slightly different venue than the one where chess champions are usually crowned - in the largest pub in Tartu, the Gunpowder Cellar. 34 chess players took part in the competition, which is more than twice as many as the year before. 7 rounds were played in the Swiss system with a time control of 15 5. The Estonian Chess Federation presented official championship medals, the Chess Support Association awarded three raffle prizes and a trophy for the best young player and senior player. Additional information about the competition The tournament was won by Aleksander Volodin, second place was Jüri Krupenski. Third place and also the best among veterans was Igor Švõrjov. The best woman was Silvi Salupere, the best young man was Ilja Sirosh, who was fifth overall. The entire tournament table is visible on chess-results.com page.
