Hello, the Mental Sports Olympiad is over for this year and it's time to summarize. Since there are enough disciplines and age groups, we decided to summarize each discipline separately. Let's start with chess today. This school year, 441 students from 60 schools played chess in the Mental Sports Olympiad. The majority of chess players were from primary schools - 224, followed by 175 from basic schools and 42 from upper secondary schools. It is pleasing to note that the Mental Sports Olympiad was essentially attended by the top Estonian players in their age group, also from the "real world". In other words, students who have also been successful in the Estonian Chess Championships competed for first place. Now for the results: Primary School From the first stage, the competition for first place was between the brothers Albert and Herman Pedmanson, of whom Albert eventually emerged as the winner. Second place went to Herman and third place to Rondo Mikko from Pärnu Mai School. The best among schools was Jüri Gymnasium. It is also worth mentioning that Põltsamaa Ühisgümnaasium had sent 32 young chess players to compete in the primary school tournament! They took 5th place out of 37 schools. See all primary school results here! Primary school For the first time in the history of the Mental Sports Olympiad, we have to award two first places: The results of sisters Margareth and Grete Olde (Tallinn Reaalkool) were equal in terms of both points and places. Third place went to Aleksei Garanin from Narva Kesklinna Gymnasium. The best school was Tallinna Reaalkool (39 schools in competition). See all basic school results here! Gymnasium The fight for first place in this age group was also very close: Mai from Narva Gustav Adolf Gymnasium and Rene Lumiste from Tallinn Reaalkool received the same number of points in total: 290. The additional criterion (number of tournaments participated) gave Maile first place. Third place was taken by Georg Nero from Tallinn Reaalkool. The best school was Pärnu Koidula Gymnasium (15 schools in competition). See all high school results here! The Estonian Chess Federation will award trophies and medals to the top three individual winners and the best school! Many thanks to all participants and see you next school year!
