Hey, how would people feel if Russian checkers tournaments here started to have draw openings like at the EMV and MM etc. The positive thing would be that the game would become much more creative and the negative thing would be that those who know the openings well would lose their advantage. You have to think realistically and not just play openings in your head. I'm all for it anyway :-)

Good idea. Then take the openings used in the World Championship: http://www.kabeliit.ee/images/f/f8/Debut.pdf. Take the first two columns from there, or there would be 64 different starting positions. If someone wants to help, they could write down these starting positions in the form: byte[][] gameBoard1 = { { E, B, E, B, E, B, E, B, E, B }, { B, E, B, E, B, E, B, E}, { E, B, E, B, E, B, E, B}, { E, E, E, E, E, E, E, E }, { E, E, E, E, E, E, E }, { E, E, E, E, E, E, E }, { W, E, W, E, W, E, W, E }, { E, W, E, W, E, W, E }, { W, E, W, E, W, E } }; Where B is the black stone and W is the white stone. We will probably make a new game "Russian Checkers with Avanguloosimis" in Vint, which cannot be played in the game room (or could it be?), which would have the same rating as Russian Checkers (or should there be a separate rating?). Vint.ee's official Russian Checkers tournaments would then be replaced by tournaments for this game. Anyone can organize regular Russian Checkers tournaments / tournament series themselves.

Isn't this thing called 'modernkabe'?
laiskloomТренер 2011-12-09T18:57:17+02:00
The rating may be the same, because the game and rules are the same. I haven't heard of Modernkabe, but maybe it exists:-) It can't be ruled out. Tournaments could be held over a week with random draws, so as not to scare off those who want to continue playing the old fashioned way:)

I guess that's not quite it. There are only a few opening variants that are based on the so-called standard starting position. However, at the World Championship, positions are played where 2 pieces are immediately moved to the second position in the starting position. For example, the starting position is white piece h2->h6 and black piece h6->h4. In this case, you definitely have to make a match of two games, because these draw openings are often quite unequal. The reason is, of course, that the best in the world simply don't lose to each other from an equal opening, and by only limiting the time control, you just reach a flash, which is not quite it. So there are some paths to unequal but still not lost starting positions. Suitable starting positions are selected using programs.

The correct link is http://cockfromarock.narod.ru/shashki/debut.doc The chess association's page only has the first half of the table, according to which the EMV was held. The World Championship is held according to the entire table. You shouldn't get a huge advantage by playing one side or the other... All positions should be possible to end in at least a draw if you play properly.

There are no completely lost positions there. The problem with completely equal positions is that, for example, at the World Cup, even mediocre players have so much technique that they can turn an equal opening position into a draw. That is why 60:40 and 70:30 and maybe even 80:20 positions are preferred there instead of 50:50 opportunities. After all, matches are played and in this case both parties have their own opportunity to defend and attack. In a way, it resembles, for example, the ground in wrestling.

Of course, there can also be equal (50:50) but complicated openings where there are no easy replacement options. PS. can't posts be edited here?

It might still be possible to have a rating in the game room for Russian checkers, the rules are the same.
