Brain teasers competition for couples 2010 - aftermath

First of all, I wanted to thank everyone who helped organize the competition for their help! Of course, the whole group was cool and there was no feeling that the manor was being pushed around, so overall the event seemed enjoyable. Triin Narva and Enit Saag, for example, went to ask when the next such doubles tournament would be and where they could play bridge (Enit sighed in disappointment when she heard that it would only be in a year). At the same time, I am so self-critical that I understand that the people who thanked me for the orgunni were happy that someone even bothered to organize such an event. Quite a few things were still out of order and, for example, in the case of the bridge tournament, it was lucky that half of the sections didn't get completely messed up, it was good that we got a sudoku facilitator at the last minute, etc. Andres and I had poor coordination about who would do what. So - I would like to organize it again next year (if you trust me), but a little better, starting with reviewing and refining the instructions and ending with getting a printer for the tournament hall and finding a separate organizer for the bridge tournament. I wouldn't mind just being the organizer myself, but if some super-good partner were to make an offer to participate with him again, I guess I wouldn't be able to resist the temptation :). (I'm already practicing chess and checkers in secret - I even went to study with Gerdi in Viljandi. In the first lesson, I learned how to place chess and checkers pieces on the table before a game and distinguish colors. This kind of load will probably be enough for my brain for another year) Anyway, I believe that such competitions have a future and that there could be many more participants. I didn't advertise it among schoolchildren - many were also in the countryside, and I was actually afraid that the hall would be quite narrow and stuffy. Next year, it would probably be wise to hold it in the auditorium of a school. 1.-2.01.2011 would probably not be popular dates, so we'll have to see what else might be suitable. Finally - when I talked to my Swedish rendzu player friend about the multi-event, he thought that such an event would fail in Sweden - the different button lifters would still only have to look at their own board and buttons. I really liked it. I was especially pleased that I learned bridge! So much so.. There is one small minus. If the instructions say that there will be a special prize for the best female pair, then I would have been very happy with a cardboard or wooden plaque. In the current situation, there is no motivation to make an effort. So next time, maybe even a cardboard medal. Of course, I am also happy for the other female pairs who followed us purposefully and put up a hard fight. The event was a success, because everyone was able to play and everyone is back home safe. Yes, Mimm, you were the most aggressive female bridge player I've ever met :). Or maybe you just liked the red bidding cards more than the green ones :). But - good point, the best women should get the medals.

It was especially nice that so many couples came. This probably shows that the decision to replace the memory game with gomoku was the right idea (although for me personally it was a big setback in terms of the result). I also agree with Mimmi that there should be medals for the best female pair, and that has usually been the case (I remember that one year, 2008 I think, the best female individual received both a medal and a cup :)). We can also organize these medals in Tartu, for example, but it is possible to get them here many times cheaper than Ants was forced to go out now. PS. I have to join Antsu and Mimmi and start practicing. Unfortunately, chess and checkers are not enough for me - I played all 5 areas below the score. So I guess I have to practice everything!
