The Great Olympic Prediction Contest

It is explained there that this table includes world records, final world records (in shooting) and also the world's best results (in rowing and paddling). I can't say about the telecommentaries, I haven't heard them on this topic, but for example, two other Yahoo news articles list 8 swimming records under world records, not 9: 1 http://sports.yahoo.com/news/world-records-set-london-2012-olympics-180100970--oly.html 2 http://sports.yahoo.com/news/world-records-set-2012-london-olympics-183300242--oly.html And the Telegraph sports news also shows 8 records: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/olympics/8660638/Olympic-Records.html (select swimming and world records and see the ones set in London). A record set after the Olympics is something else entirely, because it would be a completely different competition, but one Olympics and one distance for one gender is the same competition, even if it is different rounds (preliminaries, finals, etc.) and the record is recorded in the so-called book of records as one, not two. Not that the world record set first is not remembered, but it is overshadowed, so to speak, because it does not remain valid even after the same competition. But why don't you show articles where 9 records are listed? Then there is some solid justification for the argument ;) And to sum up, I will say that it actually all depends on which perspective you look at it from: 1) world records in swimming were broken 9 times, but 2) this was done in 8 competitions* by 8 athletes and 3) 8 records will also remain valid after the Olympics (there are certainly more of these angles ;]) *by competition I mean one distance in one style for one gender
No, I thought I wouldn't break the links and decided to turn to an expert to get some clarity on the matter. So I wrote to the head of ERR's sports department, Marko Kaljuveer. I got the following reply: Hi A record is a record regardless of where it was set. The preliminary heats, semi-finals and finals are all taken into account. The main thing is that everything is according to the regulations. A total of 9 swimming world records were set in London. Best regards, Marko Kaljuveer I hope this is an exhaustive answer to the question. :)
Ohoh! And I wouldn't have expected him to answer the questions himself. Pretty cool. But I have to believe it when an expert says so ;D
Sorry for the two in a row, but my points in the big prediction are then 34 or 32 depending on the Lithuanian prediction, as my prediction was 8 swimming world records.
There are no world records in 20 km walking, only world best times or top marks.
What is the basis for such a statement, hagar?
So if you claim that walking is the same issue as rowing or the like, where the top result is considered unofficially, then based on my data this is not the case, and there is still a world record for walking 20 km.
Hello. I apologize for not being able to answer in the meantime. 1. Of course, no points are given for the question about the evil pill, because the man did not compete :) (I wrote the question the day before it was made public) 2. In the big prediction, when writing the score of the basketball and volleyball tournament, only the right teams in the right place are given points. (It may not be the fairest way to distribute points, but that's how it's written in the scoring system and it's not going to be changed) 3. As far as I know, there is still a world record for walking 20 km. 4. If the proposed place is in the correct 5-8 in the case of Lithuania, Lithuania will receive points. I counted my points. I got 43, the same as Hagargi got.
Great, then I have 34 points and that Hagar calculation is also correct! ;) Not that I'm happy with this result, but I'll comment in more detail once all the results are confirmed.
When can we expect the final results? As you can see, some people still haven't calculated their results, but waiting for that is probably not the smartest thing to do... And if the winner is the same in both, will they get both prizes or will the prize for one prediction be given to the 2nd place winner?
