Hello, The Mental Sports Olympiad for Schools ended last week. It is an online competition where students compete in checkers, chess, gomoku and solving sudoku. There were 4 stages throughout the school year and the competition was held in three different age groups: elementary school, basic school and high school. The competition was organized by the Estonian mental sports portal Vint.ee. The goal of the competition is to popularize mental sports among school students and this competition has been held for 4 years now. The number of participants has grown every year, reaching 920 students from 69 schools this year. There were participating schools from all over Estonia - from Tallinn to Valgan and Narva to Kuressaare. The most students (44) participated from Tallinn Ühisgümnaasium and Ülenurme Gümnaasium. The most successful schools were Tallinna Real School, Peetri Kindergarten-Basic School and Nõo Real School. The Real School won the primary school gomoku and sudoku competition, Peetri School the primary school sudoku and checkers competition, Nõo Real School was the best in checkers and gomoku in the upper secondary school. The best students in the four areas were also determined. In the primary school category, Ardi Raag from Tallinn Real School won, also winning in solving sudoku in his age group. In the upper secondary school category, the best was Mark Basarab from Peetri Kindergarten-Basic School, who was also the best in the checkers tournament. The upper secondary school category was won by Martin Hõbemägi from Tallinn Real School, who also won the gomoku tournament. The best students and schools are awarded by the Estonian Chess Federation, the Estonian Chess Federation, the Estonian Renju League and the Estonian Mind Sports League. The results can be found on Vint.ee Mottespordi Olympiad. Best regards, Marten Meikop Competition organizer

Very cool! My child also participated, if I had known about this Olympiad, I would have recommended several more disciplines to my child. I found out myself when the child was already in the second round.... The child himself was also a little disappointed that all the points for the discipline were added together... That either the teacher himself didn't know that they were added or it wasn't explained properly to the children... That I would recommend doing more advertising and maybe next year my child will participate again. But otherwise he was very satisfied :)
To advertise more about being able to participate in multiple areas...
We are trying to support Marten and involve more schools/students every year. He is right, of course, that more advertising is needed, but if there are no enthusiasts of mind games in the school, the information tends to get lost somewhere.
