Just a thought, but perhaps the difficulty level of the points could also be calculated based on the users' solving style. Other games already save the last moves, so it would not be a problem to do this for crosswords as well. You could monitor whether the last letters entered provided a solution to a clue so that it was completed in full. Then, see how many letters were already present in that answer before - that is, how many previously completed intersecting solutions to clues running in the intersecting direction were there. Save the difficulty level as a quotient (number of letters in common with other previously completed intersecting solutions) / (total length of the solution word) to the corresponding clue-solution pair, and in the future, if other users also complete the same clue-solution pair in other crosswords, start taking the arithmetic average of all their results. The logic of the matter in Maakeeli would be, of course, that those clues that the solver can fill in from beginning to end without using the existing letters are easier, while clues that require solutions that intersect the letters are more difficult.

I mean, crosswords are also a hard mental game like chess and checkers, for example. But you can't even get close there if you don't have a VIP. Couldn't there be a crossword of the day or something like Sudoku... that would develop you much more than, say, 1 chess game... I don't want or demand anything, I just had an idea. I don't want any dialogue with a makeup artist again to help me compose crosswords for 1 hour and have VIP status and solve as many as it takes. I don't have the time to start composing crosswords. I can buy VIP status if I want to. I'd rather work here for an hour and have VIP status for 2 months. I even have credit. If I want to become a VIP, I will. I can't even play my free games, I just don't feel like wasting time doing anything else...

Regarding the difficulty of the questions: I thought to myself that if you have to assess the difficulty of a word, then perhaps Oppachan's logic would be more correct. Of course, the thing with these words is that (as some may have noticed), in a crossword puzzle they are crossed with other words and therefore a "harder" word can also come out when crossed with easier words (so you wonder if the solver knew that there was such a tiny American perch like darter or knew the 6 words that crossed with darter). So otherwise this assessment of difficulty is a bit arbitrary, but on the other hand, nothing will explode if for someone easy is difficult and vice versa. But it is certain that, for example, a city in Europe -> Dublin is not an "easy" thing, and this is not because no one knows Dublin, but because there are perhaps thousands of cities in Europe with six letters. Even the capital in Europe, with six letters and 5 I letters, may not be Dublin, but Paris, Madrid, or the more modern spelling of Berlin, or who knows, maybe something else. Similarly, a woman's name -> Rita is also not a simple question. In this sense, you could consider whether the question and answer are one-to-one (capital of Yemen -> Sanaa (Sana is the older spelling), with some options, a world map (east, read) or there are endless possibilities (2-letter notes, male and female names).

I tried it. Otherwise it was a simple word, and I fumbled for a raspberry variety in terms of time, which I really don't know, and since it also crossed the question "vowel", it didn't come out either. There was one glitch - I doubt whether KTM cars exist, it still produces good motocross motorcycles for the most part. And there was one thing that personally confused me: other similar programs also have a direction when writing answers, so you don't have to press the next square after writing each letter. Here too, you could write calmly and change the direction with a key, e.g. an arrow or tab, if necessary. I also think there is one conceivable possibility to make the competition closer to reality. Currently, you probably can't get the result (time) before writing if all the correct letters are in? Otherwise, it is generally customary for the solver to finish at a time that suits them and then they get speed points, and points are deducted for unfilled and incorrectly filled squares.

KTM corrected I'm thinking about entering a little. In Vint.ee online tournaments, the first person to enter all the correct letters wins.

I tried two crosswords and both of them came down to thinking up and trying out one word. One was a raspberry variety and the other an apple variety, and in both cases they were interspersed with questions where there were a lot of ways to write different letters (vowel, interjection, pronoun). But at the same time, of course, this can also be considered an (interesting) peculiarity of the vint crossword and it certainly adds an element of randomness/unpredictability.

Yes, it will be a long time before the generator can be taught which answers to cross and which not to. By the way - have there been any online (real-time) crossword tournaments anywhere in the world?

From today, you can choose the size of the crosswords in the crossword game room before solving, and you can also disable spectators. The choice is 8x8, 10x10 and 13x10 crosswords. In tournaments, there are 8x8 crosswords in the 1st round, 13x10 in the last round and 10x10 in the intermediate rounds. Happy solving!
