On April 24-27, 2009, the Sudoku World Championship took place in Zilina, Slovakia. This time, Estonia was represented by 2 teams, which were formed based on the results of the Estonian Championship. 1. The team consisted of: Tiit Vunk - (nickname TiiT) Rauno Pärnits Aivar Pardla 2. The team consisted of: Triin Melnik Jaak Eamets Kristel Tuisk The Estonian champion Ain Salula (nickname ain1234) unfortunately did not participate. In the individual classification, the world champion was Jan Mrozowski (Poland). For example, the former 2x world champion Thomas Snyder (USA) did not even make it to the finals, and finished only 9th. Rauno Pärnits took care of the best individual place for Estonia, who tied for 76-77th place. In the team classification, the championship title went home, that is, to the Slovaks. Estonia managed to take 15th place with the 1st team, which is the best place for Estonians in this field so far. A world record was also set, which was achieved by Vincent Bertrand (Belgium), who took 3 minutes and 6 seconds to solve a very difficult sudoku. The competition stood out for its very complex tasks. In many cases, the tactic had to be used, where you try to see if the solution comes out - and if it doesn't, you erase what you wrote and try the other way around. There were also tasks that no one solved.

I managed to get 99th place. Before the last round I was still the best Estonian, but this round went badly. :)
It's encouraging to hear that there are still people who want to do it among us guys. Anyway, good luck, and let's keep our fingers crossed for the future :)
The Sudoku World Championship is coming next year. The best participants from the Estonian championships will be there. You can read about the Estonian championships in the upcoming Kuma Sudoku publication (A5 format), which also includes the tasks that need to be solved to get there. It will take place in Paide Café somewhere in March, I think.
Sudoku events could also be featured in the events calendar.
When I find out the exact times, I'll write them down :)
