New game in the game: Double it!

We are happy to announce that after a two-year break, Vindis has a brand new game: Duubelda! The game is based on the extremely popular online game 2048. We made it more exciting and added leaderboards, statistics and of course - tournaments. How does the game work? Move the numbers with the arrow keys and add the same numbers together. The sum of the added numbers is added to your score. After each move, one more number is generated. With a 90% probability, this number is 2, with a 10% probability, 4. The game ends when the game board is full and no more numbers can be added together. In tournaments, all users start playing one game at the same time. According to the result of this game, the players are also ranked in the tournament table. The rating system is similar to the rating system of a sudoku tournament. If you google "2048", you will find a lot of information about this game. One of the most intriguing questions is how high a score can be achieved in this game. There are screenshots circulating on the Internet showing 110,000 points. It seems real, since the other day a score of 80,000 was achieved in Vint. Who knows, maybe a world record will be set in this game right on our portal!? How to get to play? Open Vint.ee game room, look for the Duplicate! icon in the game rooms subsection on the right, and enter the room. You will already find the "Play!" button in the room. Have fun playing!
It is now possible to see a user's best doubles games under their profile.
Now the games in the game room are also colorful - according to user rating
It's great that Vindis has such a new game, but why does this game have a time limit? Why is it necessary and for whom? I understand that the vast majority are very skilled keyboarders and quick-witted. As you can see, I am an exception. I just like to think and play calmly. Would it somehow distract others if I played longer? Think of it like a person with special needs. I am not able to play faster, but I am very disappointed when, due to lack of time, I simply have to start slogging at the end and all the work of the previous couple of hours cannot be completed with dignity. Unfortunately, this has happened several times. Today was a very good opportunity to get my personal record much higher, if only I had had time to think it through. You never know when you start a game how it will go. Today, I was busy with my dog, answered the phone, made coffee... There is no pause button to save time in this way, but during such a long game, you still encounter various distracting circumstances that shorten the playing time even further. (I'm just sad and waiting for an answer)
This time limit has already been discussed, the time limit is necessary so that tournaments still end (otherwise it happens that someone just closes the game and the game never ends). The solution should be that when you reach a certain score, you are given more time. For example, if you get 50,000 points, an hour is added to the time. If you get 100,000 points, another 1 hour is added. Meikop even said in the meantime that it was a good idea, and that he would do this development. But apparently many other developments have come in between, or this development is harder than he thought. In any case, this change is necessary, because it would be quite frustrating if you start to reach the record and the game board is beautiful but time runs out!

Yep, such a solution will come, I was just in a hurry at the moment. I was hoping that no one would not have achieved the record yet due to the time limit, but yeah... apologies anyway!
Why do we have a time control in single-player games (including sudoku)? So that games (and tournaments) end. Otherwise, someone will discover a bug, try one game, leave it unfinished, and leave. This way, a game will hang on our server (and game room) indefinitely. But why don't we end the game when a user leaves? Because our server can't tell whether you had temporary problems with the internet or turned off your computer. If we solved the problem so that the game would end immediately when a user leaves, then all games would end immediately when a refresh is performed or when technical problems occur. We don't want that. With today's solution, there is time to solve these problems as long as there is still time left to play, and this allows you to play the game to the end.
Thanks for the answers! The time limit for tournaments is not a problem. Especially when the additional time described by pahhi is applied as the score increases. However, I still don't understand the need for a time limit when playing alone. Some people may want to play during breaks at work. They start in the morning and continue throughout the day in their free moments. How difficult would it be for a game without a time limit to implement, for example, a half-hour option to continue the game when the user leaves? If there are problems with the internet, this should be enough time to return. After this time, the game would simply stop. That way, nothing would be left hanging and the person would have the option to choose when and for how long they want to play.
I like Rose's idea. So tournaments could have a default time control of 2 hours and 1 hour added to the time for every 50k points reached. There would be no time control in single games, and the game would be considered over when a person can no longer walk, or more than half an hour has passed since they left the playing room. (Somewhat similar to chess tournaments, where you can return to the same tournament within half an hour)

Yes, I've thought about that myself. The technical implementation will be difficult but doable. Then all sudoku tournaments will have to be tested, etc.... In my opinion, a person can solve sudoku in Vind for two weeks if they want. But to do that, they have to be online in Vind all the time. Hopefully, tonight I'll upload a version where you get an hour extra in doubling for every 50,000 points, I'll think a little more about this more general solution (eliminate time limits in game rooms for single games) and consider technical solutions. NB! Time controls will remain in tournaments!
