Good idea

The idea is great, but I guess the tournaments would be quite long?

This could be particularly useful for relatively small and heterogeneous (in terms of level) groups of participants. Currently, it is often the case that everyone is played against everyone, which means that the stronger players have weak opponents for the final rounds. With double rounds, this would not be a concern; with a small number of participants, there would be fewer rounds.

In essence, this cannot be applied only to tournaments... it could also be in game rooms, for example, in chess, the color: black, white, the opponent chooses and (new) both colors.
