As you can see, you can't make the squares any smaller. The only option is to hide the right side of the board and expand the crossword there. I plan to generate a 12x8 crossword.

I reviewed all 10,000 questions/answers, and about 1,700 were deleted. Since our current goal is to make 12x8 crossword puzzles, we need all answers that are a maximum of 11 characters long. There are currently 7,800 of them in the database. If we could get to 10,000 in a month, the generation would be faster. A few changes regarding question input: 1) The maximum answer length is 11 characters 2) We doubled the price of a question, so you can get 20 credits for 50 questions!
