In the final match of the World Chess Championship held in Moscow, Russia, defending champion Viswanathan Anand defeated Israeli representative Boris Gelfand. The 12-game classical chess match ended in a 6-6 draw and rapid games were needed to determine the winner, with a thinking time of 25 minutes per game 10 seconds per move. This meant that for the first time in history, the world champion of classical chess was determined in rapid games. Known as a strong rapid player, Anand justified his position as the favorite by winning the second rapid game, and since the remaining three games ended in a draw, the tie-break score was 2.1-1.5 in Anand's favor. Anand first won the World Championship title in 2000, as the best in a tournament held in the FIDE play-off system, in the final he destroyed Aleksei Shirov with a score of 3.5-0.5. Anand became the world champion in classical chess in 2007 in the World Championship tournament held between eight chess players in a tournament format, scoring 9 points out of 14 possible. In 2008, he successfully defended his title against Vladimir Kramnik (with a score of 6.5-4.5) and in 2010 against Veselin Topalov (6.5-5.5). Anand has played for the World Championship title before, but had to accept defeat in a match against Garry Kasparov in 1995 and Anatoly Karpov in 1998. The challenger Boris Gelfand played a match for the World Championship title for the first time. Still not a true world champion - he got a good beating from both Kasparov and Karpov at the time and needed extra games to prove his superiority against the 17th in the world rankings. Unfortunately - there is no true successor in terms of chess knowledge, let alone the spiritual leader of the chess community, which the title of world chess champion carries. Once again - sad.

A title is a title, at the moment it is the best, in the computer age, competitors are also smarter than in the past, and what is even sadder is that the level of chess in Estonia is also going down, and there is no one to be seen coming either.

At one time he was clearly less experienced than both Kasparov and Karpov. I would also say that he did well to become world champion again, it's no joke even though his opponent is ranked 17th ;D And Magnus Carlsen is a new young star, should he have any hope of becoming the so-called leader? Okay, he's been at the top for a few years now, but he's still young and talented.
