The European Championships in international blitz checkers ended in Tallinn. There were 52 athletes in the competition, and in addition to Estonian checkers, there were competitors from Ukraine, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus and the Netherlands. Also present was the new blitz checkers world champion Alexander Schwartsman from Russia, who had won the World Championship title in Ufa 3 weeks ago. Schwartsman showed high class in Tallinn as well, convincingly winning the European Championship title, collecting 47 points. The best Estonian was Raivo Rist, who came in 13th place with 27 points. In the women's category, the European Championship title also went to Russia. Tamara Tansikužina won. Piret Viirma was the best Estonian in 10th place.
