At the 3rd Estonian Chess and Draughts Championship held in Tallinn on May 20, Heinar Jahu successfully defended the title won last year, scoring 28 points out of a possible 36. Andres Kuusk came in second with 27 points, and Eino Vaher, who remained in the competition for first place until the last round, came in third with 26 points. This time, Kalev Pagar, who won last year's silver and this tournament several times before it became the official Estonian Championship, failed to win the tournament, and had to settle for 23 points and fifth place. The best woman was Kaari Vainonen, who scored 14 points and shared 18th-20th place overall.

As long as this competition has been organized (originally for the Võhu Vein awards, then L-Virumaa open mv, now Estonian mv) the winner of this competition has been the man who gives up the fewest points on his trump card as possible. Because every half point has a "gold" price. Jahu did it for the second year in a row - 100% in checkers! Andres didn't do so well - a surprise loss in chess to Abozenko in time, and in checkers also to a knight :). But congratulations to Mr. Jahu!
