Hello!
I would like to share some additional thoughts regarding the plan to include AI in text analysis and speech bans. I am a long-time vint.ee user and care about this environment, which is why such technological changes worry me.
My main arguments against the system are as follows:
- Context and inner humor: Over the years, Vint.ee has developed into a community with its own established communication style, irony, and "insider" features. Artificial intelligence analyzes the text verbatim and does not understand the history between players. What seems like an insult to the AI may be a banter between long-time acquaintances.
- Specific user profiles (e.g. "Forest 58" example): We have users who consciously push the boundaries and use provocative language that is part of their gamer identity. If the AI starts counting "points" for these, we risk making the environment too sterile and losing the authentic excitement that keeps people here.
- Errors and "false-positive" results: The Estonian language is complex and full of nuances. AI can interpret innocent emotions (e.g., disappointment with one's own game) as rules violations. When a player receives an unfair ban due to a "machine decision," it creates a much greater sense of defiance and injustice than a punishment imposed by a human.
- The role of AI as an assistant, not as a judge: I'm not necessarily against technology, but AI should never be the final decision-maker. It can be a tool that flags suspicious places, but the final ban should still be decided by a moderator who knows the dynamics of the environment.
