We also arrived in London last night with Martin and Liise. Andres, I and Martin played Lines of Action today. Andres tied for first place with two other players, he won silver in terms of medals, with 93 points. I tied for 6-11th place and Martin for 12-15th place. In the evening, we played gomoku with Martin and Liise. There were 5 participants in total, because David Pearce said at the last minute that he didn't want to play anyway. The tournament was great and I hope we found a few new people interested. Andres played poker at the same time. Unfortunately, he didn't make it to the final table, he came in 8th or 9th place. Tomorrow, Andres will play Fisher chess. Martin plans to play backgammon. Madli and Liise are still thinking about whether to play, maybe we'll go explore the city :) In the evening, we'll play Canadian stud :D
Today I attacked Fischer chess, Martin played checkers at the same time in backgammon. In general, I have always done better in Fischer than in regular chess and this time was no exception - I shared 1st-3rd place with Ankush Khandelwal and Martyn Hamer, worth 90 points. Martin earned 5 points out of 12 in backgammon and a place among the averages. I have to be very satisfied with the results so far, compared to last year I am in a big plus and currently in 4th place after Ankush, Matthew Hathrell and Michael Dixon, and several trump cards are still to come. As a negative circumstance, the fate of the gold medal is already becoming clear - Ankush has collected an extremely powerful sum in 7 areas: 4 first, one second and one third place. His 4 best results are 2 times 100 and 2 times 93 points. I have to resist 100, 93 and 90, I hope to get the necessary extra mainly from entropy and boku. Other favorites have not fared well, including defending champion Dario de Toffol, who has already lost a lot of points compared to last year. Due to health problems, one of the main favorites, Paco Garcia, is not present this year at all. In the late evening session, we will play Canadian Stud with the whole gang (except Liise), tomorrow morning I will try my luck in Mastermind, while the rest of the Estonians will do their best in Renjus. PS. Madli's comment yesterday that "the tournament was great" meant that Estonia got three first places, gold and 83 points went to Martin, Madli accumulated a crucial 65-66 points in the women's classification.
Poker is over for me, I didn't even make it to the second table. Bad card luck turned out to be fatal when Bharat found a third company with his last card for his pair of kings and trumped my AA88. Madli and Martin are both still in the game nicely. Edit: just now Martin invited me to watch how Madli went all in and 2 opponents came along - the result was a win for Madli and the three of twos. A quick look shows that the Estonians have a double advantage at their own table. Luckily Madli brought a laptop with her, so now writing is much more convenient and cheaper. So we try to keep the fans up to date with our progress. PS. It should also be possible to get Acquiret in Estonia, I got it for myself (or rather, initially as a gift, but later I acquired it) from Ludo. We all have relatively full suitcases, but if we have to, we will definitely bring it with us.
Very good everyone! It's great that you can provide a more operational overview, otherwise I would be here reading the same post five times a day :)
Martin and I both made the final table. I had the smallest stack, but I managed to at least double down twice, but I still ended up in seventh place. Martin has been consistently taking out players and just came into heads-up with the overwhelming lead.
I had a dream today that Andres was complaining that at first the competition was called the World Championship, but now that he's starting to close things down, the name has been changed to something less and less resonant. The current status is "Games of the Housewives". I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Mastermind, I'll milk it in four lines! P.
In the morning session, I somehow managed to share second place in Mastermind with a big pot, which wasn't much use, but gave me about 80 points. The expected triple win in Renjus didn't come - David Pearce grabbed bronze after Martin and Madli and ahead of Liise. The finale of yesterday's poker has not yet been announced: as expected, Martin made his stack advantage pay in heads up and so came the underdog and the maximum 100 points. It seems that Canadian stud is the national poker genre for Estonians - three of the last four years, Estonia has won first place. Now we have a big entropy marathon ahead of us, the start will be in 15 minutes and the finish is at midnight.
The fifth round is currently underway. Andres is in the lead after four rounds. No one else has four points. In the fifth round, Martin and I got together on the last board. I came out of the fight successful. At the moment, I have two wins out of five, Martin has not managed to collect any points. We will announce the final results soon. The last round should start in 15 minutes.
Andres had to settle for a draw in the fifth round, but his victory over David Pearce in the last round secured him first place. Unfortunately, Martin and I did not get any more points. Another positive is that Ankush was leading the triolet tournament, but the loss in the last round meant that he shared 2nd-4th place and he only got points in round 80. All in all, Andres is only three points behind Ankush. Tomorrow morning, the three of us, Martin and Andres, will play Carcassonne. In the afternoon and evening, the boys will maybe play Mensa Connections and poker (london lowball), Madli will go to work :) Liise will go shopping :D
Entropia's victory is a great result! Good luck to everyone in Carcassonne. We hope that Andres will benefit from the Guards' training in Carcassonne.
