Hello, 56 schools and 500 students have registered for Estonia's first online mental sports Olympiad to date. Many thanks to Ants Soosõrvu, with whose help several Tallinn schools have come to participate! Since the Olympiad will take place as a four-stage tournament series throughout the school year and schools can also join the competition in the middle of the school year, the number of schools and students may increase even more. The most popular area is checkers: 242 registered students. Gomoku, sudoku and chess follow almost equally - the number of students is 176, 168 and 161, respectively. The first stage of the Olympiad starts next Monday - tournaments will take place every day from Monday to Thursday at 14:00. Those interested are welcome to watch the event! We are pleased to announce that schools from all over the country are participating in the event: Saaremaa, Hiiumaa, Ida- and Lääne-Viru counties, larger cities and small settlements are represented. A file with the number of schools and students by area is attached.

Will there ever be a time and place where we can see the current standings for all disciplines?

This table will be created over the weekend. We will inform schools and also put a link on vint.ee.

Very good...but not ideal. The links to all the participants' names are broken, meaning the numbers at the end of the URLs are missing, so clicking on the name takes you to a page with an error message.

Thanks for reporting, the error has been fixed!

Thank you Marten for your great work! I also have a question: are you planning to do a summary of all the disciplines of one player? I saw that there were those who participated in all disciplines and did well. Perhaps we could find an opportunity to give out some special prizes in this category as well. Since I am holding the Mõttespordi pentathlon for pairs on 26-27.01. 2013, I hope to find new participants through the online tournament.

We can find the best individual athlete from the Mõttespordi top: http://www.vint.ee/mottemangijate-edetabel/?sort=rating&sort_type=desc At the moment, there are no plans to develop a separate ranking for the best in the tournament section.

Isn't it a problem at the moment that the one who performed well in the sudoku tournament will win the individual competition quite definitely? Especially in the case of elementary schools (where 82 students participated in the sudoku tournament).. So the first ones earned an average of 80*21=1680 points in addition to the rating.. And thus achieved a rating of over 3000.. (So the points earned or lost in the TOP ranking of mental athletes during the Olympiad are most heavily influenced by the result of the sudoku tournament)..

Hi, Marten! I understand from your introductory letter that it would still be possible for schools to register for tournaments (i.e. for stage II, III or IV). However, I understand from the instructions that this has ended. If schools can still register themselves additionally, then perhaps this additional opportunity could be reflected in the instructions somehow. For example, today I was at Jüri Gymnasium, where a chess tournament for grades 4-5 was taking place, and I helped a little there. But the teachers at the school had never heard of such a thing. I have 2 children studying there myself, and I have spoken to both class teachers that they would also try to keep an eye on the pulse so that the school would regress, but so far without results. They are good, but somehow it remains stagnant. So that if it is possible for schools to regress additionally (the first stage with zeros), then it could be promoted even further. Now that Kasparov and Ehlvest's chess promotion projects are underway, it would be a good opportunity to further encourage schools to participate in the Mind Games Olympiad.
