What to do in tournaments with dropouts?

It's disturbing that if you lose the first two or three games, the tournament is abandoned. Maybe it's possible to think of some kind of punishment for such people. This has happened many times already.

But why does it bother you? It shouldn't make much difference to you.

It's quite annoying, yes. Especially if you're in first place and there's still 1 round left and the crowd is so accurate that if you leave, you don't have to play the last round and you can secure your place that way. The same applies to other and third places. I don't think anyone should be punished here, but if a player leaves the tournament, his name can still be in the game. In other words, he can lose until the end of the tournament. Then he can return to the tournament at any time.

I guess leaders rarely leave, rather those who fail to collect wins leave, and then give up. Quite rude stuff actually, and it bothers me personally. But it's a question of each person's own ethics. I follow the principle that if I go to a tournament, I'll be there until the end. and so far I have done that.

The Misty Insect has an idea. You could make it so that if you go to a tournament, you have to be there until the end. And if you leave, your future opponents will be declared losers. That way, you can always come back if you lose your internet connection. Of course, you also have to come up with some kind of punishment for leaving the tournament unfinished (-100 tournament rating points, for example? Or a ban on organizing tournaments for a week?)

-100 is not possible, because maybe I will leave the tournament because my internet connection went down. And besides, changing the rating by other means will throw the rating system out of balance. If we leave the users who left the tournament, then many users will have to sit there and wait for their opponent's time to drop. It's also a bit of a mess. If, then maybe we can make it so that whoever leaves during the last 1-2 (or 3) rounds will be left in the game anyway and the opponent will get victory points at their expense if they have left.

What happens in the real world when you leave halfway through a tournament? Your rating won't be affected, will it? Will there be a punishment (e.g. 10 lashes)? :)

Let's stay within the boundaries of reality, shall we?

The punishment could be that if a player leaves an official Vindi tournament halfway through, they will be banned from official Vindi tournaments for a week.. that's the most normal solution in my opinion :) no need to mess with ratings etc...
