I would like to see the world-famous word game Scrabble on vint.ee. * Every hour, at least 30,000 Scrabble games are started worldwide. * There are nearly 4,000 active Scrabble clubs worldwide. Scrabble is perfect for spending time together with the whole family or playing with friends. Scrabble is especially educational for children from the age of 10. It develops language perception, insight and creativity, for 2-4 players. The principle of Scrabble is to make words from letter blocks on a special game board. At the end of the game, the board looks like a solved crossword. Different letters give different numbers of points, and the score also depends on the placement of the words on the game board. At the end of the game, the points are totaled and the winner is announced. The game, which has been providing fun brain training for word game enthusiasts for over 60 years, is sold in nearly 120 countries around the world and has been translated into more than 30 languages.

The idea seems interesting. However, there are problems with the implementation: We need to have a complete list of Estonian words to check whether the formed word actually exists. So we would need a digital Orthographic Dictionary, which I guess is not distributed for free? Does it even exist?

There are some spelling dictionaries and other things like that available on the internet. For that, you would have to start collaborating with someone, etc. I would like to hope that it is feasible.

The Estonian Orthographic Dictionary (ÕS) is available online > http://www.eki.ee/dict/qs2006/

It is available on the Internet, but integrating it with our server software would be a tough nut to crack. We would need an ÕS interface that our server could use.

The biggest drawback of making Scrabble is currently the database of words that cannot be taken from anywhere. The idea came up to let the players create this database themselves: If you put a word on the board that is not yet in the database, a window will appear for the other players asking if they approve/allow the word. If two of the three other players approve it (the word must also be in the singular nominative form, shouldn't it also be a verb?), then the word will be added to the database. Vint.ee administrators review the database from time to time. They also have the right to not allow a word (mark a word as prohibited). Another problem is copyright - we need to investigate whether it is even possible to do this under the name of Scrabble. But I guess that problem can also be solved somehow :) - let's call it a word game, for example! I would also implement this game as a 4-player game and of course there will be Scrabble tournaments!

It seems that we are going the same way with Scrabble as with crosswords - we don't have a complete database of all words at the beginning, but it will be created over time. We can take 17,000 words from crosswords as a basis. We have to remove proper names (cities, footballers), compound words, foreign words, etc. from there. I think that after this removal, thousands of words will still remain. And these would be the basis. If a word arises during the game that we don't have in the database, we can report it (like the current error in crosswords). Of course, it could be made clear beforehand which words are allowed. Personally, I am confused about names - proper names (Pele, Tallinn) are not allowed. Are there names of species? We already have 1,400 fish in the database :D But what about, for example, company/product names? Samsung, Ipad?

As for copyright, it has already been done in the world: Words With Friends. The name of the game (Word War, etc.) and the game board (graphics, locations of valuable squares) need to be changed a bit: https://www.gamecupid.com/sites/default/files/words.jpg. In other words: The goal for next year is there :)!

Can't you make a query in ÕS? It should have all the words that the rules allow, 1:1.
