At the first Estonian Chess and Checkers Championship organized by the Rakvere Chess Club, the first place was taken by the Estonian multiple champion in mind games and board games, Andres Kuusk from Tartu. The second place was taken by Gert Elmaste from Viljandi, the third and fourth places were shared by Kalle Peebo from Tartu and the 76-year-old Heinar Jahu from Nõmme, who had an excellent tournament. The fifth to seventh places were taken by Vello Luht from Viljandi and the men from Lääne-Virumaa, Eino Vaher and Kalev Pagar. Raivo Kaasik came third in the special classification for Lääne-Virumaa. A total of thirty mind athletes participated in the tournament. RESULTS (Estonian World Championship in the chess and checkers championship) 1. Andres Kuusk 16.5 points (out of 22 possible), 2.
