Congratulations to the Estonians on their individual wins, especially to Andres Kuus for his win in Lines of Action! :)
Pentamind top 10: 1. James Heppell 451 2. Ankush Khandelwal 427 3. Andres Kuusk 419 4. David Jameson 415 5. Tim Hebbes 405 6. Dario De Toffoli 390 7. Matthew Hathrell 383 8. Bharat Thakrar 379 9. Riccardo Gomes 377 10. Jaanus Mae 363 ... 16. Martin Hõbemägi 322 ... 23. Madli Mirme 275 With yesterday's win in lines of action, I quickly rose to the top three and according to the assumptions, I should also pass Ankush on the last day. Theoretically, there are still golden chances if Heppell does not gain any more points and I should win both boku and one of the three "lucky games" - blokus, texas holdem or lost cities. As you can see, Jaanus has also shown an excellent game in the top ten. Martin has not had much luck so far, but he should be able to climb into at least the top 10 in boku and gomuku. Madli is currently third among women, but is still in the running to defend last year's first place in monopoly.
Today's games are over. Andres didn't win the block, he got an average result and since David Jameson won, Andres was out of the pentamind medal spot for the moment and about 30 points behind his nearest competitor. Martin and Ankush didn't play the last round at Agricola, but since I barely got any points in the last round, I probably didn't get a very good place either. In the evening, Andres played Texas Hold'em in poker, but was eliminated quite early. Martin and I played gomoku. We got 7 players in total. Martin was first, I was second and David Pearce was third. I probably improved my pentamind score enough to move up from fourth place in the women's standings to second in the current standings. Martin can quite definitely win the poker overall standings, before today he was a solid leader and there were very few people who could stop him. Tomorrow we'll go out on a limb. Andres is playing bokut and hasn't decided yet whether to play lost cities or poker heads up. Martin is in the same position. I'm still very disappointed with my long distance result, so I'm going to defend my monopoly gold from last year, aiming to get over half the points and finish a few places ahead of Madeline.
Blokus with four players is quite a gamble, so what can you do? Thumbs up for today!!!
The results are in. In the morning there was boku. Martin won and Andres was second. This meant that Andres no longer had a chance to win gold in pentamind and he took the second session off altogether. Martin played lost cities in the second session, before the last round he also had a chance to win silver, but the last round didn't go the best. At the same time, Martin very confidently won both junior pentamind and poker overall!! :) I did well in monopoly again, I got silver. Unfortunately, there was not even a chance to win women's gold, because Charlotte, who plays exclusively Euro games, went to the top of the women's ranking after yesterday's insane lead. Thanks to the monopoly silver, I went from fourth place to second, so silver this time. Now the award ceremony and that's it for now :)
Congratulations to Nuffu for the silver in the women's pentamint and Martin for the gold in the juniors!! Nicely done (y)
This year the medals were divided as follows: gold James Heppell (ENG), silver Ankush Khandelwal (IND) and bronze David Jameson (WAL). Unfortunately I failed the last 2 days and had to settle for 6th place. Martin was 11th and Madli 18th. So no one met their goal and they need to train harder next year.
The main thing is that it was fun. It was very exciting to keep my fingers crossed from here. Thank you!
Thanks to Madli, we also have a whole bunch of pictures, which can be seen at www.eestimso.blogspot.com.
